Is rawhide safe for my dog?

Any chew has risks if it’s the wrong size or not supervised. Sticks, cooked bones, toys — dogs can choke on all of them. Rawhide is no different.

Here’s how we make it safer to use:

• We only sell thick, single-piece knotted bones, not thin pressed chips.
• We size by dog weight, so you’re not giving a tiny bone to a power chewer.
• We tell you to supervise your dog and take the bone away once it’s small enough to swallow.

If you follow those steps and your dog is a normal chewer, rawhide can be a long-lasting, satisfying chew. If your dog is a “gulp and swallow” maniac on anything, skip rawhide entirely.

How often can I give one?
Use as an occasional supervised chew, not an all-day free-for-all. Give fresh water, watch while they chew, and take the bone away when it’s small enough to swallow.

What if my dog is a “gulp and swallow” chewer?
Don’t use rawhide. Any chew can be dangerous for dogs that swallow large pieces. Size up does not fix gulp-and-swallow behavior — pick a different chew style.
