IMPORTANT: Pre-Baiting Required for Best Results

Rats are naturally cautious around new objects (neophobia). For best results, follow the pre-baiting steps included with every trap: tie the doors open and allow rats to feed freely for 1-2 days before setting the trap. Customers who follow these steps report catching 2-14+ rats within the first nights. Skipping pre-baiting may result in delayed catches.

The Ratinator is a humane multi-catch rat trap designed to catch multiple rats per setting when used with the included pre-baiting instructions. It catches rats alive without dangerous poisons, sticky glue boards, or harmful snap traps. Part of the Rugged Ranch family of multi-catch traps — manufactured and sold for over 20 years through Tractor Supply, Walmart, Amazon, and farm stores nationwide.

Why choose the Ratinator over poison or snap traps?

Rat poison is dangerous for children, pets, and wildlife — and poisoned rats often die inside walls, creating horrible smells that last for weeks. Snap traps catch one rat at a time and leave a mess. The Ratinator catches multiple rats alive in a single setting, so you can relocate them far from your property. No poison residue, no dead rats in your walls, no risk to your family or pets.

How to set up your Ratinator (included with every trap)

  1. Choose your location: Place on a flat, level surface along walls, fence lines, or areas with visible rat activity (droppings, gnaw marks, runways).
  2. Pre-bait (critical step): Tie the trap doors open so they stay open. Place bait (peanut butter, grains, pet food, or tuna) in the central bait box AND sprinkle some near the entrance. Let rats enter and eat freely for 1-2 days until they are comfortable with the trap.
  3. Set the trap: Once you see bait is being eaten regularly, untie the doors and bait heavily in the evening. The one-way doors will now close behind entering rats.
  4. Check daily: Check the trap each morning. Use the easy-removal door to relocate captured rats far from your property.

Note: Results depend on proper setup and placement. Rats may take several days to approach a new trap — this is normal rodent behavior documented by the US CDC. Following the pre-baiting steps above is essential for best results.

Where can I use the Ratinator?

The Ratinator is built for rat problems in homes, barns, attics, basements, garages, restaurants, warehouses, farms, and commercial buildings. Its durable galvanized steel construction withstands outdoor weather while remaining effective indoors. Professional pest control operators and homeowners alike use the Ratinator for rat control.

FAQs

1. Will the Ratinator work for mice too?

No. The Ratinator is made for rats, not mice. Since mice are much smaller, they can often escape through the trap. For mice, a smaller trap like the Mousinator is a better option.

2. Does the Ratinator use poison?

No. The Ratinator does not use poison, glue, or snap mechanisms. You only place bait inside, and the trap catches rats alive so they can be released safely.

3. Is the Ratinator a humane trap?

Yes. It is designed as a live-catch trap, meaning rats are trapped without being killed. You can relocate them after they are caught.

4. Can I remove the door on the Ratinator?

The Ratinator uses a dual-door spring-loaded entry system, but the door is not meant to be removed during normal use. It is designed to let rats enter while preventing them from getting back out.
